Participants learned Romanian wax and die egg painting techniques led by Jack Theis.
Jack Theis is a bookseller and bead worker born and raised in South Dallas and currently living in Minneapolis. Jack lived in Paris in his late teens to early 20s and has travelled throughout Romania. His paternal great-grandparents emigrated from Satu Mare county and joined the Romanian community in Aurora, Illinois almost a century ago. He learned how to make pysanky from a Ukrainian teacher at his high school in Dallas and later used his newly acquired skills to create Romanian-style oua incondeiate. Jack is also Anishinaabe-Michif and a citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation. He majored in Native Studies at University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and will be studying History at McGill University in the fall.
