We had the pleasure of receiving the visit of Dr Taehyun Oum at the Romanian American Cultural Center. He is the leading Romanian Studies scholar in South Korea and a professor at the Hankuk University of International Studies in Seoul. Dr. Oum is a renowned translator of Romanian language. He had translated and published in Romania an impressive range of Korean literature from ancient classics to contemporary novels. His research in Romanian comparative linguistics and Eastern European area studies also has been highly regarded both in Romania and in Korea.
Because of his uncommon background as a South Korean intellectual who lived and studied in Bucharest, Romania during the 1990s’ and 2000s’ post-Ceausescu revolutionary times, he brings in a unique perspective in the study of Romanian languages and cultures. Dr. Oum generously donated a few of the titles he translated to the RACC library.
