Romanian Spring Traditions: Exhibit Grand Opening on March 6, 2022

Thank you to everyone who participated in the opening of the Spring Traditions Exhibit on March 6, 2022. We were honored to welcome Dorian Branea, Director of the Romanian Cultural Romanian Cultural Institute in New York / ICR New York, Robert Dumitrescu, Deputy Consul General, Chicago and Patrick Ledray, Honorary Consul, Minnesota.

A big thank you to all artists who created a unique energy at the Grand Opening Event on March 6, 2022:

  • Duo Fara Nume (Colleen Bertsch and Eric Ray) classical and folk music performance: 1:45-2:15 pm, North Gallery.
  • Nicoleta Cornea polymer clay demo 2:30-3 pm, room 317. Visitors were able to observe a demo on making jewelry with polymer clay and get new ideas of how to be creative.
  • Izvorasul dance ensemble 3:30-4 pm, room 317. Participants watched Romanian traditional folk dances and joined in learning some of the steps.
  • Martisor making 2-4 pm, room 317. With the help of our volunteers, participants were able to get creative in making little “marchlings (martisoare), a traditional spring lucky charm usually given on March 1st as a symbol of love. Materials were supplied and no existing experience was needed. This event was open to everyone, seats were on a first come, first served basis

This event was made possible with help from MN Landmarks and voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
