Thank you to everyone who participated in the opening of the Between Superstition and God – Life in a Romanian Village Exhibit on October 1st, 2022. We were honored to welcome Patrick Ledray, Honorary Consul, Minnesota.
After one year of extensive research, including in the field in Maramures, our talented exhibit curator, HORA founder and former president Raluca Octav succeeded to create an amazing and unique exhibit that many believed to be an impossible task in such a short time! This exhibit would not be possible without Gabriel Motica’s amazing pictures who inspired Raluca to focus on the Northern part of Romania, in Maramures.
It did take a village to bring Raluca’s vision to reality. These pictures are just a glimpse of a year long process. It started with an idea, then a few notes on a paper, then countless conversations, months of internet searches, visits to stores, stitching, knitting, shopping, vetoed ideas, failed attempts at props, translators, editors, designers and the 2 Romanian churches in the Twin Cities that helped us spread the news. We want to thank all our board members: Dana Voller, Gina Popa, Diana Gregory, Andrei Hahn, John Omorean, Radu Rimbu, and our volunteers: Chad Voller, Bogdan Filipescu, Irina Woldeab, Prascovia Bortnova, Victor Ciurusniuc, Raluca Boac, Despina Stefan, Ana Gradinaru.
A big thank you to Izvorasul Dance Ensemble who created a unique energy at the Grand Opening Event. Participants watched Romanian traditional folk dances and joined in learning some of the steps.
This event was made possible with help from MN Landmarks and our donors. Watch a video from this event created by our interns.
